Organised chaos reigned at our annual tree planting with Colville School this year. Dirt flew, as the children dug holes and sunk plants in the retired pasture.
Winter time heralds the season for planting, and we always look forward to our annual outing with Colville School. Tuesday 21 July saw a bus load of local school children plant 150 native trees in the Moehau Environment Group Children’s forest at Waikawau Bay. A mix of cabbage tree, flax, kowhai and coprosma were donated by Waikato Regional Council, with local Council staff coming out to help get the job done.
Our Childrens forest has never looked better, thanks to the tireless efforts of local volunteer-caretaker Vic Brown. Vic keeps the trees happy and grass under control and has been working to make the site more accessible, with the installation of a shell path and plank bridge.
